The City of Lithonia has been approved by the State Office of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) to recruit one AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) to work with the community in the area of financial literacy.  This includes partnering with groups to provide workshops on budgeting and saving as well as asset building, including homeownership.

“We are glad we are able to recruit to fill the new VISTA position,” said City of Lithonia Mayor Deborah A. Jackson.  “The new VISTA will build on the work started to increase financial literacy in the community.” “He or she will complement the work by our other VISTAs who are focusing on access to healthy food resources, job training and small business development.”

The City’s VISTA project, Lithonia Action to Build Community-(Lithonia ABC) focuses on the CNCS goals of Economic Opportunity and Healthy Futures.  The City is seeking one applicant to serve as a VISTA Community Liaison for Finance Development.  The position is temporary, full-time and funded through the State AmeriCorps Office for a one-year period.  A monthly stipend of $1,026 is provided along with health and other benefits.  An educational award is available upon successful completion of the program.  Outside employment is permitted that does not conflict with responsibilities to the VISTA project and must be approved by the City.

Interested applicants can obtain additional information at the Corporation for National and Community Service website at:  http://www.nationalservice.gov/programs/americorps under the link Find Opportunities Now.  The Lithonia ABC Project link is https://my.americorps.gov/mp/listing/viewListing.do?id=59159&fromSearch=true.

Applications must be submitted online at the CNCS website by Thursday, July 6, 2017.  The selected applicant must be available to attend the VISTA training from August 14-17, 2017.  The position will start on Friday, August 18, 2017.
